Job summary

As an Investigation Support Officer within the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS), you’ll play a vital role in supporting independent investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct across the parliamentary community. Working alongside externally appointed investigators, you’ll help gather, analyse and present evidence, ensuring investigations are conducted thoroughly, sensitively and in line with established policies, procedures and data protection requirements.

Job description

This is a varied and high-profile role where you’ll manage multiple investigations simultaneously, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across both Houses of Parliament and associated bodies. You’ll apply your investigative expertise to support evidence-led decision making, identify further lines of enquiry, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Scheme through project work, guidance development and the promotion of best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, conduct and support complex investigative interviews, prepare interview plans, review transcripts and ensure interview records are accurate and agreed.
  • Gather, collate and analyse evidence including emails, text messages, CCTV footage and witness accounts, identifying relevant information and potential further lines of enquiry.
  • Prepare high-quality investigation materials, evidence bundles and reports, ensuring compliance with GDPR, confidentiality requirements and evidential standards.
  • Build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, providing a professional, compassionate and impartial service throughout sensitive investigations.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the ICGS by contributing specialist investigative expertise, supporting projects, maintaining accurate case records and helping develop guidance and best practice.

This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with an expectation of you spending 40% of your time in the office.

Person specification

  • Case Management - Significant experience managing complex and sensitive investigations, with strong knowledge of investigative best practice, evidence assessment and applying policies and procedures to support sound decision making.
  • Attention to Detail - Strong analytical skills with the ability to review complex information, identify key issues, maintain high-quality standards and develop practical solutions.
  • Stakeholder Management - Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and high-profile individuals.
  • Communication Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly, provide constructive feedback and adapt communication style to different audiences.
  • Teamwork - A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work effectively across teams, seek input from others and contribute positively to shared objectives.
