Job summary

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will play a key part in the CPS’ Corporate Finance, assurance & control framework working with Finance Business Partners and HQ finance colleagues to ensure the Department’s financial management complies with departmental and civil service standards.

You are responsible for providing support to the Head of Management Reporting in relation to all financial matters through the provision of high quality management information to inform strategic and operational decision making by senior managers.

You will produce the monthly management information for the Corporate Management Report and external reporting to HM Treasury within set timeframes, reviewing resources, budget data, providing cost analysis and financial data.

You will work collaboratively with peers; sharing good practice and lessons learnt to deliver the business and to ensure resilience.

The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. If you’re applying for this role and live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you must let us know when accepting this offer as you need permission to work from your home address if hybrid working is part of your role. There’s no guarantee that we will grant this approval.

You must be aged 16 or over at the point of starting in this role. The expected start date is approximately 8–12 weeks after the application closing date. As part of this role, you will have direct line management responsibilities.

Job description

Your roles and responsibilities

  • You will set priorities, goals, objectives and timescales with the wider team in line with Directorates and CPS Plans.
  • You will make effective use of project management skills and techniques to deliver financial outcomes, including identifying risks and recommending, or taking the initiative to implement mitigating actions.
  • You will take responsibility for delivering expected management information for Head of Management Reporting and Chief Finance Officer to tight deadlines with high standard of accuracy and ensuring that stakeholders to deliver outputs to the required deadlines and standards.
  • You will recognise the need for and actively seek input from subject matter experts and other internal and external stakeholders across the CPS to deliver high quality financial analysis to Finance Managers; this will in turn inform and support their decision making.
  • You will build and maintain good relationship with stakeholders both within and external to the CPS, for the delivery of business objectives.

Person specification

To be eligible to apply, you need to:

  • Have well-developed financial capability combined with excellent analytical skills (particularly in MS Excel) and the ability to develop financial models/accurate forecasts
  • Have excellent relationship management combined with an ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outputs
  • Have proven project management capability with ability to effectively manage competing demands in tight timeframes, ensuring continuous progress across a range of responsibilities.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and understandable form
  • Have experience of establishing the most efficient ways of working and standardising processes
  • Have prior experience of using accounting software Oracle, Anaplan or PowerBi
  • Must hold Level 4 qualification with AAT, CCAB or CIMA and working towards Level 7 qualification with CCAB or CIMA

It is desirable that you have the below experience but this is not required to apply:

  • Complete Level 7 qualification with CCAB or CIMA
  • Practical experience of Consolidated Budgeting Guidance, Managing Public Money and Supply Estimates: a guidance manual and the Financial Reporting manual
  • Technical financial accounting knowledge

Assessment

Personal statement

We ask you to complete a personal statement of no more than 1,250 words. You need to address the lead behaviour for this role, which is Managing a Quality Service.

Clearance

If successful, you are required to secure a Security Clearance clearance, for which you must have a current valid UK address.

If successfully appointed, we ask you to complete a character enquiry form and nationality and immigration questionnaire and a national security vetting form.

To be cleared to Security Clearance clearance level, you have to be able to meet the residency requirement in the Cabinet Office guidance. For the Crown Prosecution Service this is three years within the last five years.

Reserve list

If you're recommended by the selection panel but not appointed to the current vacancy, you’re put on a reserve list for 12 months. You may be offered another Senior Financial Analyst post in the CPS if a vacancy comes up during this period. We may also approach candidates on the waiting list to fill other roles that require similar knowledge and experience.
