Hounslow is the world in one place and full of potential. We are stepping up for our residents like never before

About our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We live by five core values: Lead with Heart, Do New, Pass on the Power, Harness the Mix and Be a Rock. All our work has equality, diversity and inclusion at its very heart, best articulated in “Harness the Mix”. It's about breaking down barriers between our parts and people and unlocking the problem-solving power of our amazing mix of minds. We serve a diverse community, we have a diverse workforce and we are committed to being an inclusive employer.

We work hard to create representation across our workforce and leadership community, we have thriving employee network groups and our learning and development programmes help us lead, model and breathe ways of working that eliminate inequality, inequity, injustice and bias.

As part of this and under our commitments as a Disability Confident Employer, we make reasonable adjustments to accommodate our candidates. There’s space for you to tell us what you need within our application form.

Become a Shared Lives Carer – Open your home, change a life

Hounslow Shared Lives is looking for caring, welcoming people to become Shared Lives Carers.

Shared Lives Hounslow offers a unique opportunity to support adults with a range of care and support needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities and other additional support needs. Approved carers share their home and everyday life with an adult who requires support, providing a family and community-based alternative to traditional care services. In doing so, Shared Lives Carers build meaningful relationships and make a lasting difference, helping residents feel valued, connected and part of their community.

About The Role

We are looking for people who can offer personalised support in a family and community-based setting, sharing aspects of everyday life and helping others achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.

We are currently looking for carers who can offer:

  • Full-time (live-in) support
  • Short breaks (respite) support, including overnight stays, weekends or planned breaks

As a Shared Lives Carer you could:

  • Support people to manage daily routines, household tasks and other aspects of everyday life
  • Help individuals access and enjoy community activities, social opportunities, education, work and hobbies
  • Support people to gain life skills, make choices and become more independent
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support while developing trusting and meaningful relationships
  • Promote wellbeing, inclusion and person-centred support tailored to individual needs.

About You

Being a Shared Lives Carer is a unique and rewarding way to make a difference and could be right for you if you:

  • Have a spare bedroom if you wish to provide full-time (live-in) support
  • Can communicate effectively, build positive and respectful relationships, and support others with care and patience
  • Are flexible, reliable and able to manage responsibilities with appropriate guidance and support
  • Are willing to take part in the assessment process and attend required training
  • Work in partnership with professionals and follow agreed support plans

Shared Lives Carers are self-employed and work in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow. They receive payments for the support they provide, which vary according to the person's needs and the type of arrangement offered. For full-time (live-in) support, payments are typically between £400 and £500 per week, plus rent and weekly food and utilities contributions.

If you’re interested in applying, please complete our enquiry form using the link below: Submit a Shared Lives carer enquiry - Guidance - My Hounslow

When Interviews Will Be Held And Who To Contact

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Suitable applicants will be contacted for an initial informal discussion to explore their interest and suitability for the Shared Lives programme, followed by a full assessment process to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved.

Whether you're looking for a career change, a different work-life balance, or a meaningful way to support others, Shared Lives could be the opportunity you're looking for. If you have a passion for helping people thrive, we'd love to hear from you.
