Assistant Team Manager

Assistant Team Manager

Social Work
£56,439 - £60,898 per year

The starting salary for this role is £56,439 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Team Manager to play a key leadership role as part of our 6 month pilot of a 14 to 18 year old Link Worker Service. This exciting pilot is testing new ways of working across social care, health, education and community partners, and we're looking for someone who can provide leadership, professional guidance and oversight while helping shape the future of transition services.

This is a fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity for up to 6 months, ending no later than 31st March 2027. If you are wishing to apply for an internal secondment, please seek permission from your line manager first.

Our Offer to You

  • 26 days’ holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years’ service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension
  • Up to 5 days of carer’s leave and 2 paid volunteering days per year
  • Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
  • An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources
  • Wellbeing and lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, and shopping
  • A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents

About the Role

You will support the Team Manager and Senior in leading the 14–18 Year Old Link Service pilot, helping to ensure that young people and their families receive a consistently high-quality service. A key part of the role will involve providing guidance, support and supervision to team members, enabling them to manage their workloads effectively and make informed, confident decisions in their practice.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across social care, education, health and community services, you will help develop and coordinate effective transition plans that support young people as they prepare for adulthood. You will also provide oversight of complex cases, offering advice and support to practitioners to help achieve positive outcomes for young people and their families.

In addition, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the 14–18 Year Old Link Service by helping to monitor team performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting the implementation of service enhancements that strengthen outcomes for young people.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Holds a recognised Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or Allied Health Professional qualification and has current professional registration where required (Social Work England, HCPC/NMC or relevant regulatory body).
  • Has substantial experience in social care, SEND, transition, disability or multi-agency services.
  • Can lead, motivate and develop staff through coaching, supervision and support.
  • Is confident managing complex situations, risk and safeguarding practice.
  • Builds strong relationships with families, partners and professionals across services.
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes and driving innovative ways of working.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
