About the team

This is a great opportunity to work within the Reducing Reoffending Directorate in HMPPS as part of the New Futures Network (NFN) national team. NFN is the specialist part of HMPPS which attracts and supports employers to work with prisons in England and Wales. We also assist prisons to create the systems and infrastructure that will result in more prison leavers securing employment, such as attracting the right employers who can offer sustainable employment opportunities. For more information about the work of NFN, you can visit https://newfuturesnetwork.gov.uk/

We know that being in stable employment contributes to positive outcomes for people with convictions, their families and communities. Employment is a key part of the Government strategy to reduce reoffending. That is why NFN partnerships support men and women in prison to find meaningful work opportunities and prison leavers to find employment on release.

About the role

The Regional Employment Broker for the South East and Eastern Area will be responsible for engaging employers to create sustainable employment pathways for prisoners. They will have sole responsibility for employer engagement in the Area and will use these employer relationships to deliver outcomes through:

  • Employment on Release
  • Commercial Workshops
  • Release on Temporary Licence

Covering prisons across the South East and Eastern regions - including the women’s prisons within this Area - the postholder will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the Area including Governors, Prison Group Directors and Prison Employment Leads. Crucially, they will build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional employers. A core focus of the role is proactively targeting and engaging businesses in key growth sectors, using labour market intelligence along with Prison Employment Lead intel to target appropriate employers. The postholder will act as a trusted broker between employers and prisons, shaping opportunities that meet commercial needs while maximising meaningful employment outcomes for prisoners. This post will report into the central NFN team but will be required to work closely with the South East and Eastern group.

Employer engagement experience, strong influencing skills and the ability to operate confidently at senior level are essential to delivering impact across this diverse and strategically important region.

The duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level that may be necessary.
