Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a ASYE Social Worker to join our Children’s Services at Milton Keynes City Council.

The Fostering Team works across Children’s Services to fulfil Milton Keynes City Council’s statutory requirements under the Children Act 1989, Fostering Regulations 2011 and National Minimum Standards 2011.

The team recruits foster carers to provide good quality foster placements so the children of Milton Keynes have the opportunity to thrive and remain close to their local networks.

The team works closely with colleagues in the Corporate Parenting service and contributes to the recruitment, training and support of foster carers, alongside assessments and support for kinship carers, private fostering and special guardianship arrangements.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we deliver over 200 services to residents and work alongside partners to make our city a better place to live.

We are dedicated, respectful and collaborative, and we work together as one council to support children and families across our communities.

In this role, you will begin your career as a social worker within a supportive environment, working directly with foster and kinship families to assess needs, manage risk and deliver meaningful interventions.

You will be part of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme, receiving guidance, supervision and training to support your development.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Interviews for this role will be held on 19 August 2026

At Milton Keynes City Council, we aim to make a difference every day. We’re dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive.

Role Responsibilities
  • Carry out assessments using Children’s Social Care tools and processes to support foster and kinship families and children with safeguarding and child protection needs.
  • Develop and deliver clear intervention plans for children, young people and families to meet identified needs.
  • Manage a caseload appropriate to your stage within the Newly Qualified Social Worker programme, with support from your supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date case records and prepare reports that support effective decision making.
  • Work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to plan and deliver coordinated support for children and families.
  • Participate in supervision, training and development activities, including completing the ASYE portfolio within required timescales.

Ideal Candidate
  • A qualified social worker with a social work degree or equivalent and registration with Social Work England.
  • Confident in communicating with children, families and professionals, using strong listening and observation skills.
  • Able to assess and manage risk with support, ensuring children are safeguarded and their needs are met.
  • Skilled in analysing and recording information clearly, using IT systems to maintain accurate case records.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a statutory Children’s Social Care team and with partner agencies.
  • Willing to travel across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, with access to a car, driving licence and appropriate insurance where required

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).
