As a Head of Digital and Data Portfolio

you'll provide strategic leadership and oversight for the planning, coordination and delivery of a diverse portfolio of digital and data projects, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, service objects and the wider digital strategy.

A key part of the role will be to identify, track, benchmark and realise the benefits of digital and data projects, ensuring that outcomes are clearly understood, measured and aligned to service improvement. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to coordinate project activity, support engagement and ensure effective implementation across different staff groups and operational areas

Alongside this, you will provide expert programme and project management advice, assurance and governance to support effective decision-making. This will include preparing and presenting updates, reports and recommendations to directors, senior management teams and relevant committees, as well as representing the organisation at local and regional forums where required


Key areas of accountability and responsibility:

  • Effectively contribute to DHU’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes by adopting an agile approach to programme and project delivery.
  • Coordinating activity and drafting reports for the Chief Digital Officer, providing support in managing the digital and data project portfolio.
  • Fostering the development of key skills within the Programme Team through guidance and mentorship.
  • Achieving significant progress in the delivery of successful digital and data projects, contributing to the overall strategic goals of the organisation.
  • Developing comprehensive and first-rate business cases to advance digital and data-specific projects.
  • Thoroughly identifying and documenting the Trust's requirements for each project, collaborating with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Supporting the procurement and delivery of each project in a timely and professional manner, adhering to PRINCE2 and Agile methodology principles. This will involve preparing and implementing project documentation to meet agreed milestone delivery dates and coordinating any tendering processes while ensuring flexibility and adaptability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Effectively communicating and engaging with staff at all levels to ensure a clear understanding of the digital and data-driven strategy and the benefits it can deliver to the organisation.

To be Successful in this role you will need:

  • Significant experience in managing the implementation of projects for clinical and non-clinical systems
  • Experience of writing business cases to secure additional funding for service developments
  • Experience of writing papers for board and sub-committees
  • Experience of managing multiple competing priorities and delivering the best results from them
  • Proven experience of using general office IT systems and advanced use of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, MS Project and other project management tools
  • Proven experience of managing people to deliver large projects
  • Proven experience of managing third-party suppliers to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Proven experience of producing analytical reports using quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Experience in applying specialist transformation and technical knowledge across a range of system applications
  • Successful strategic management in a complex organisation
  • Professional qualification, such as PRINCE2, or equivalent experience
