Are you passionate about data, databases and ensuring critical services run reliably and securely?

As a Database Administration and Data Management Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the systems and data that underpin essential local government services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking Digital, Data & Technology team where you will help ensure the reliability, security and effective management of data services that support vital services for local communities.

In this role, you will take ownership of database platforms and data management processes, ensuring they remain secure, resilient, high-performing and fit for purpose. You will help maintain the integrity of business-critical data, support service continuity, and contribute to the organisation's wider data governance and enterprise data management objectives.

You will work with colleagues across Digital, Data & Technology and service areas to support the effective management, protection and optimisation of data. Your expertise will help drive continuous improvement, reduce operational risk and ensure that data remains a trusted asset that enables better outcomes for residents and communities.

About the role

As a Database Administration and Data Management Analyst, you will:

  • Own and support database platforms, ensuring their performance, availability, resilience and security.
  • Monitor, diagnose and resolve database and data-related incidents, problems and performance issues.
  • Manage backup, recovery, high-availability and disaster recovery processes.
  • Support data migrations, data loads, integrations and data transformation activities.
  • Apply and maintain data governance standards, controls and policies.
  • Support the management of data quality, metadata, data structures and data catalogues.
  • Ensure database environments comply with data protection, security and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations on database operations, resilience and service improvement.
  • Support reliable and secure datasets used for reporting and analytics platforms, including Power BI environments.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation, optimisation and continuous improvement.
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, processes and procedures.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues across the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge of:

  • Database administration principles, including performance management, resilience and security within live environments.
  • SQL Server database technologies and operational support.
  • Relational database design, indexing, optimisation and performance tuning.
  • Data management practices, including data quality, metadata, governance and stewardship.
  • Data protection legislation, information security principles and GDPR compliance requirements.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The following criteria will be used for shortlisting and assessment:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Data Management professional, supporting and maintaining databases within live production environments.
  • Strong technical expertise in SQL Server, including the ability to write, optimise and troubleshoot SQL queries, scripts and database processes.
  • Experience managing, transforming and consolidating data from multiple sources, with a strong understanding of data quality and governance principles.
  • Demonstrable experience independently resolving complex database or data-related issues, balancing service continuity, data integrity, operational risk and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to interpret business and technical requirements and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A data or database-related qualification, or equivalent professional experience, together with SQL Server training or certification.
