West Anglia Area Team has an ambitious plan to build a resilient natural environment. We want to create flourishing landscapes that are a source of pride, employment, access and enjoyment. West Anglia Area Team contains four county-based teams (Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Beds & Hertfordshire and Essex) – where we develop our plans and deliver our services under the leadership of a Team Leader. The county teams are multi-disciplinary, enabling us to bring together different tools and advice to deliver our outcomes in partnership with others, this role is part of the Beds & Herts team. Supporting our county teams is our People & Nature cross cutting team, essential to provide over-arching leadership and support in a number of areas.

We have offices in Peterborough and Cambridge as well as some staff based in our London office

Job description

Location: Can be based in Essex, Beds, Herts, Cambs or Northants Office base: Cambridge or Peterborough preferred

The Role

West Anglia has an ambitious programme of project delivery for large scale nature recovery impact. This role will support project delivery across the team through use of project resources, GIS mapping, delivery tracking and coordination of tasks with project leads.

This role will be line managed as part of our People & Nature team. They will be delivery-focused, with a direct impact on the ability of Area Teams to achieve both local ambition and corporate performance indicators. The Project Officer will work independently on a day-to-day basis, applying their technical knowledge, research abilities and judgement in decision-making.

The role will be office-based (hybrid) but regular travel will be required to attend site visits, meetings and training events within the Area Team geography.

Key Tasks/Principal Accountabilities

  • GIS mapping as commissioned by Project Leads in the team
  • Use of project resources to support Project Leads in coordinating and tracking delivery
  • Secretariat functions for Project Teamlets
  • Research tasks
  • Helping to prepare communication and presentation resources e.g. story maps
  • Part of a ‘network’ sub-team to support delivery across the team through triage and management of reactive work

Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) to convey complex and/or difficult messages to a variety of different audiences.
  • Use of Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams) and digital mapping systems.
  • Experience of applying new technology to improve the way we deliver our work
  • Ability to drive for site visits.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
