We are looking for a Home Adaptations Officer to support residents in accessing home adaptation grants and services that enable them to live safely and independently. You will assess applications, apply relevant legislation and Council policies, undertake financial assessments, and provide advice on available funding and support options.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

    Our benefits

    What will you be doing?

Acting as the main point of contact for applicants, you will guide customers throughout the process, from initial enquiry to completion of works, including conducting home visits, reviewing financial information and liaising with contractors.

You will also oversee the tendering and payment process for adaptation works and maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing adaptations, legislation and best practice to ensure a high-quality service.

    About you

You will have a strong understanding of the home adaptations framework, including the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, the Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) Order 2002, and the role of local authorities in delivering adaptation services. You will be confident in applying this legislation and guidance to support residents and deliver effective outcomes.

The successful candidate will have experience working within a home adaptations service and a thorough understanding of the full range of grant funding available for adaptation works.

You will play a key role in supporting residents through the adaptations process, ensuring funding is administered effectively and works are delivered to help people remain safe, independent and comfortable in their own homes.
