    Maldon District Council is working in partnership with Essex Shared Services to support the role of Health & Wellbeing Support Officer, a full-time position offering hybrid working with an expectation of attending the office 2 days per week.

    Role Purpose:

    Contributing to public health improvements for residents. Using data to help inform health and well-being priorities, working with services to help improve Public Health outcomes and to assist with the development of projects.

    Accountabilities - Service Delivery:

    Deliver public health improvements for residents to tackle health inequalities in the district by:

    • Supporting the promotion of the principles of public health across all council departments.
    • Collaborating with Maldon District partners and communities to support positive health outcomes across health, voluntary and community sectors.
    • Partnership working with Essex County Council, neighbouring districts and heath, community and voluntary partners as part of place-based working approaches, focusing on shadowing and learning opportunities to develop partnership skills. Benchmarking best practice from other local authorities and using this to shape local plans.
    • Supporting action to create healthy environments, strategies and policies.
    • Linking staff, partners, businesses and community groups to local community initiatives, assets and support.
    • Deputising at Maldon District Livewell Partnership meetings and translating national and local public health priorities, datasets and evidence into meaningful language for community and voluntary groups.
    • Supporting the administration of the Health Integration team's funding pots and disseminating funding to successful applicants, processing applications against criteria and tracking spend.
    • Supporting the Health Integration team to identify sources of external funding to maximise impact and reach of public health activities across the district.
    • Being accountable for delivery of KPIs that directly support the Council's Supporting our communities priority in the Corporate Plan.
    • Developing and supporting best practice public health project management and data evaluation methodologies and processes across Maldon Livewell Partnership.
    • Assisting with the delivery of national and regional Public Health campaigns for the Council.
    • Developing skills to manage small projects under supervision.
    • Undertaking desk-based research, data collection, and analysis to support the team's data and evaluation processes, using data across population, deprivation, health needs and wider determinants domains.
    • Demonstrating a strong interest in developing skills in handling both quantitative and qualitative data to better support team insights and evidence-based practice.
    • Undertaking training to become a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) consultee, supporting the team to implement and process HIAs.
    • Encouraging customers to use online services and promoting digital inclusion.
    • Encouraging customer feedback to improve services.
    • Developing and maintaining an extensive knowledge and understanding of health and well-being issues.
    • Completing other tasks which may be considered appropriate.
    • Be willing to improve and develop professional competencies, engaging with public health practitioner learning opportunities as appropriate to the role.

    The Experience You Will Bring:

    • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience in Public Health, Social Sciences, Data Analytics or a related field.
    • Demonstrable interest or experience in working with qualitative and quantitative data datasets, with proficiency in using basic data and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
    • UK Driving Licence essential or able to travel around the district
    • Commitment to working towards registration as a Public Health Practitioner on the UK Public Health Register, with an understanding of public health principles and professional standards.
    • Sound knowledge of Data Protection legislation
    • Policy development, including contributing to the creation, review, and implementation of policies that support service delivery and improvement.
    • Knowledge of core project management methodologies and tools, and a willingness to develop in this area to support the planning, coordination, and successful implementation of projects to agreed timescales and objectives.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Excellent level of IT skills including researching

    Salary range
