Independent Person for Dartford Borough Council

An Independent Person is sought to work alongside elected Councillors and other Independent Persons managing a charity held on trust by The Dartford Borough Council for the people of Dartford.

In 1903, an area of land adjoining Central Park Dartford was bequeathed on charitable trust,

by Colonel Charles Newman Kidd. The Objects of the charity require the land to be held on trust by the Council for recreational purposes. The land is commonly referred to locally, as the Kidd Legacy land or Kidd Legacy charity.

We are seeking a candidate who is a team player, with energy, enthusiasm and commercial acumen, who will demonstrate a commitment to good governance and sound financial management, who will act solely in the best interests of the charity and who will work with and alongside elected Councillors and other Independent Persons in managing the Kidd Legacy land, for the people of Dartford.

Whilst applications from all interested persons are welcome, candidates with knowledge of horticulture, parks and open spaces management, sports and leisure, law, neighbourhood user groups, previous experience as a charity trustee and/or former local authority officers may make an effective contribution to the charity in terms of skill and experience.

Applicants must not within the period of five years, have been a councillor, co-opted member or employee of The Dartford Borough Council or be a relative or close friend of an elected councillor, employee or co-opted member of the Council.

The appointment is initially for a 4-year term. Payment of out of pocket expenses will be made by the Council (in its corporate capacity) and not the charity. Committee meetings are held as and when required, in the evenings. Induction, training and on-going support will be provided to enable successful candidates to carry out their duties effectively.
