Here at the London Borough of Havering, we’re excited to be growing our Planning team. Over the next few years, we’re embarking on a regeneration journey that will transform our borough, create high-quality places, connect our towns and bring opportunities for all. As part of this, we’re recruiting a Deputy Team Leader for Strategic Applications.
In this vital leadership role, you will use high-level development management and placemaking skills to drive regeneration across the borough. Through the innovative and practical handling of proposals for planning permission, you will ensure that growth and regeneration in the borough is delivered in line with the Havering Local Plan.
About The Role
Together with the Team Leader, your key responsibilities will involve managing up to 100 strategic planning applications per year. You will deputise for the Team Leader and assist in setting the tactical direction for your team and monitoring performance delivery to achieve both corporate and service aims. We’ll look to you to help ensure that all strategic application services are completed on time and within budget.
You will support the Team Leader to establish, develop and review structures, procedures and working methods for the Strategic Applications team to ensure an integrated, effective and efficient approach to the delivery of services.
To be successful in this role, you will need excellent planning and urban design skills as well as supervisory experience at team level within development management. You will assist the Team Leader in dealing with all levels of member enquiries, so confident communication skills and political astuteness is essential.
As this a senior role, we’ll expect you to have several years’ experience working on complex and strategic applications, as well as RTPI accreditation or eligibility for it. You will also need a comprehensive understanding of current developments affecting planning, regeneration and local government in London and good knowledge surrounding planning legislation.
