Building Control Surveyor

Building Control at Horsham is about making things possible – for our customers, our partners and for the ambitious people who join us as Building Control Surveyors. We are committed to nurturing top Building Control talent by expanding their horizons and investing in their development.

Known as Sussex Building Control, the local LABC team is the award-winning provider of choice for all sorts of town and rural projects across Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council. If you can combine technical know-how with a natural flair for helping people through the building control process, we can help you develop your skills, your qualifications and your career.

With travel kept to a minimum and plenty of potential for flexible/home/site working you’ll be assessing plans and applications for compliance with Building Regulations and allied legislation, as well as ensuring that all work is in line with performance targets and Quality Management System processes. Throughout, you’ll be expected to provide advice and assistance to members of the public and other in-house departments on professional Building Control matters.

To make the most of this role, you need only be part qualified but must have a good level of construction/surveying experience. This will have equipped you with sufficient knowledge of the interpretation and enforcement of Building Regulations, plus the IT skills to adapt quickly to different packages.

Your customer skills are equally important, including the ability to communicate well with people from all backgrounds, at all levels, be they the public, contractors or professional bodies. You also have strong powers of initiative and problem solving, with good organisational and time management skills.

Horsham District Council encourages and supports professional development and offers a generous benefits package to support your work life balance.  This includes 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, flexible working arrangements, access to wellbeing services, and a staff benefits platform featuring many discounts from the high street.
