Shelter is looking for a proactive and influential individual with a proven record of developing services for people facing disadvantages and inequalities, including homeless people, to join us as a Project Coordinator and oversee the development and implementation of Greater Manchester #HealthNow activities.

About #HealthNow

Shelter, along with Crisis and Groundswell as lead partner, has been successful in securing a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to deliver #HealthNow across the U.K. over the next four years, working towards an inclusive health system where everyone has access to the health care they need and ultimately moving people out of homelessness. Shelter (in Manchester) and Crisis (in Newcastle and Birmingham) will create local #HealthNow alliances, informed by peer-led research to understand and raise awareness of local barriers to accessing healthcare for homeless people.

About this role

Our Health Now Coordinator will develop and implement Greater Manchester #HealthNow activities, including recruiting and delivering training to a team of Homeless Health Peer Advocates and Peer Researchers, who will support people to attend health appointments, gather experiences of homeless people in accessing care and treatment and ensure their rights are upheld.  The role will also involve developing and coordinating the local #HealthNow Alliance meetings and activities and contribution to the national alliance.

You will also be expected to deliver one-to-one supervision to volunteers and develop and maintain an effective referrals system, while ensuring advocacy appointments are delivered in line with advocacy principles and helping with the annual project planning process are also key duties.

About you

You will have a proven record of volunteer recruitment and management and leading and motivating a team of people effectively, plus experience of managing complex projects, including using a range of Project Management techniques. An outstanding communicator, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal, problem-solving and IT skills, you will also have a sound knowledge of how to use social media tools to share knowledge and create insights, while an understanding of the role of advocacy is also vital.
