About the role
Your main duties will include extracting information from the rent accounting system to identify current and former tenants who are not paying the agreed rent/service charge, offer advice and support to those who are experiencing difficulties and take legal action against those tenants who continually break agreements and/or miss payments.
Other main duties of this role are:
- To carry out the tenancy sign up interview which will include the full explanation of the legal responsibilities of the Council and the tenant, to carry out an assessment of entitlement to welfare benefits, to promote the Debt advice and Housing Support Services and the various payment methods which will enable tenants to manage their tenure.
- Interview tenants face-to-face at the public counter, negotiating realistic agreements to pay back rent arrears.
- Take part in answering incoming telephone enquiries, taking ownership of the problem and ensuring a speedy response is given.
- To obtain up to date household make up information in order to assist with income maximisation, housing benefit entitlement and to negotiate realistic agreements to reduce arrears of rent.
The post holder will work closely with colleagues in Debt Advice Team, Housing Officers, Housing Benefit Officers, other council sections and outside agencies.
We require an enthusiastic and motivated individual to undertake a variety of work including being responsible for preventing homelessness and supporting tenancy sustainment by providing advice on worklessness, welfare benefits and reform changes, and to promote financial.
Previous experience of working to targets and well developed written and verbal communication skills will be essential to this role.
