Commissioning & Monitoring Officer - Public Health

£33,106 - 36,937 pa Grade M1

Farnham House, Stevenage (with travel to other bases e.g. County Hall)

Permanent – FULL TIME 37 hours per week

About us

The Public Health Department commissions a wide range of organisations to deliver services to improve the health of Hertfordshire residents including weight management, sexual health, drug and alcohol treatment, NHS Health Checks, health improvement for adults, children and young people, and primary care.  We are looking for a highly motivated Commissioning & Monitoring Officer to join our busy Commissioning and Contracts team.

The role

Under the guidance of the Senior Commissioning Manager you will provide commissioning support across all of the Public Health portfolios across the Public Health Department, including procurement of new services, varying existing contracts, and reviewing service delivery arrangements.

You will play a key role in monitoring the performance, quality and safety of our services, so you will need to effectively manage relationships with commissioned and non-commissioned providers and suppliers, and with other stakeholders.

You will represent the team by providing feedback about our services' performance and general commissioning input to a range of governance and development meetings, within Public Health and across the wider health and care sector.

The role can be challenging and varied, so you'll need to demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach, and be able to resolve issues and problems, to ensure that tasks are completed to a high standard and that deadlines are met.

Skills and Experience

There are no specific qualifications required for this role but previous commissioning experience is essential, as is a can-do attitude and the ability to work as part of a close knit team.

You will be capable and comfortable to be the first point of contact regarding commissioning and contracts within the Public Health Department. As you will be dealing with a wide variety of people at all levels, a professional and approachable manner is vital as are strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

You will be highly motivated, able to use your initiative when appropriate, and have a proven track record of working effectively in busy commissioning roles.  You will have the flexibility to work on a variety of different tasks at any one time, prioritising your work and managing tight deadlines.  Patience, precision and accuracy will be important requirements.

You will be a proficient user of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and be able to learn to use new IT systems and equipment quickly and easily.

This position is available as a Permanent Contract offering an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to gain valuable experience as a Commissioning & Monitoring Officer within the Public Health Department.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Brian Gale on 01438 843537.
