Title: Counter Fraud Investigator

Grade: Band C/D

Salary: £19547 to £24,791 pa

Hours: 37 hours a week

This position provides an exciting opportunity for you to play an important role in investigating allegations of fraud and highlight areas of potential risk to the organisation. This will principally cover areas such as Social Housing, Right to Buy, Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates, Planning, Procurement and Insurance.

You will ideally hold a minimum of 2 years investigative experience working within a Fraud, Enforcement or Social Housing/Benefit/Council Tax environment with a recognised qualification in counter fraud investigations or show a willingness to undertake such study.

You will prepare and present cases at court, disciplinary hearings and tribunals as a representative of the Council, giving evidence as required. Demonstrating a thorough and up to date knowledge of criminal and civil law and procedures relating to investigation work to include:

  • Fraud Act 2006
  • The Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013
  • The Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984
  • The Police and Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996
  • The Data Protection Act 2018
  • The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA)

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, proactive and well organised with good communication skills. You will be handling cases across a number of systems and must be flexible with the ability to learn new skills quickly. Good computer and keyboard skills, including MS Office and Excel are essential. You will also require a current, clean British driving licence with access to a car.
