Waltham Forest is an ambitious Borough. Driven by culture and the innate creativity of our residents, we have developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council. As London’s first Borough of Culture we are creating more opportunities to empower our residents and boost their life chances.
We are a Council bursting with energy and opportunity. Our strong grasp of our finances means that we can invest - in our residents, our place and our people.
Over the coming year we will work with our communities to set out what we want Waltham Forest to be by 2030; how that relates to the ever-changing world, and what that means for the services and infrastructure that we need to provide. We need to make sure that everything we are doing today supports that vision, and helps our residents succeed in an increasingly uncertain world.
We need trailblazing leaders who can deliver fast-paced, people-centred design approaches to change. We will design for delivery with work that is insight led, co-created and digitally enabled, pushing collaborative working and igniting creativity.
Our Corporate Development department has been fundamental to Waltham Forest’s successful transformation. We have all of the levers to deliver sustainable change - human resources, digital, ICT, communications, culture, policy, strategy and change services.
This is an exciting time to join Waltham Forest – London’s first Borough of Culture and the winner of the MJ “Council of the year” award. We are busy creating a Council for the future and this is your chance to join an ambitious, customer focussed Corporate Development directorate during a time of change and transformation.
About the role:
Following the opening on William Morris Gallery in 2012 through to becoming the first London Borough of Culture in 2019, the organisation is committed to investing in and using culture to improve the lives of residents. Our aspiration is that the Borough of Culture programme is a foundation to build a vibrant, dynamic and thriving cultural offer in Waltham Forest for the medium and long term for the benefit of our place, residents and communities. Key to this, is ensuring that our model of delivery of cultural services is fit for purpose, sustainable, and most importantly owned by our residents and communities.
This role will be integral in helping to embed the future legacy, sustainability and longevity of our Cultural and Wetlands offer and developing the proposals to find the best way forward.
The aim of this role is to work with senior stakeholders to make sure we create a last legacy from the Borough of Culture year, bringing forward options that are financially sustainable and foster strong connections with our communities. We need to ensure the best commercial, funding and income generating model to ensure longevity now and the future.
We’re looking for individuals who are driven to improve public services and have significant practical experience of delivering successful, high-profile projects that have made a demonstrable difference. You should have strong analytical skills, an ability to generate energy and excitement about change, the ability to work to tight deadlines and a strong drive for personal and professional development. But above all, it’s your excellent interpersonal skills that will help you stand out – we’re looking for someone with the ability to challenge how we work as an organisation in sensitive and constructive ways, and experience of successfully influencing senior stakeholders within a complex organisation.
