More Information

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council is a District Council in the Surrey area which takes pride in its progressive and enterprising approach to the delivery of public services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Accountant to join our busy finance department. In this role, you will have exposure to a wide variety of financial situations and an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a number of key areas of Local Authority financial services. The post will be highly attractive to qualified accountants or anyone in the latter stages of a professional accountancy qualification wishing to broaden their knowledge base.

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for budget setting, monitoring and closing, and assist in supporting the Council’s financial systems. You will also assist the Council in accounting for VAT and business rates income, and have the opportunity to develop management skills, through supervising an apprentice.

The minimum requirement is to be either a CIPFA/CCAB/CIMA finalist or have attained the AAT qualification, ideally with proven accounting experience within local government. The Council would support your final studies and your development needs to achieve full qualification.

You need to be confident in your ability to work with minimum supervision and on your own initiative. You will have experience of the budget cycle, together with the ability to organise, plan and deliver work to tight deadlines. Crucially you will need to be a team player and able to work with competing demands in a calm manner.

If you have the drive, enthusiasm and determination to deliver a first class finance support service then we would like to hear from you. In return you will benefit from 24 days annual leave (extended to 29 days after 5 years’ local government service), subsidised gym membership and car parking, entitlement to join the local government pension scheme and non-contributory life assurance.

For further details and to apply on-line please go to the Epsom and Ewell pages of Surrey Jobs at

If you would like an informal discussion about your potential for this role please contact the Senior Accountant, Richard Appiah-Ampofo, on 01372 732220.

Closing date: 25 September

Interview dates: 2 & 3 October

We are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applicants form all sections of the community.
