Southwark Council welcomes the right development in the right place. Sometimes things go wrong and development occurs without planning permission. Planning enforcement is an essential element of the development management framework.
The enforcement team takes action against unauthorised development that causes harm to the quality of life in the borough. The enforcement team is currently seeking a senior planning enforcement officer. The job involves handling a complex caseload of investigations into breaches of planning control. You will need town planning experience, including previous experience handling enforcement investigations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of enforcement practice, including an ability to use a variety of investigation techniques, good report writing skills and experience of defending decisions to enforce at appeal and possibly in court.
The ability to exercise good planning judgement, and to follow a course of action through to conclusion is essential. You will have the confidence to deal with the wide range of stakeholders who are affected by planning enforcement investigations.
This is an opportunity to make a difference to the environment of the borough and you will deal with a variety of planning challenges, including beds in sheds, checking compliance with approved planning applications and ensuring businesses operate in a neighbourly way.
