Commercial Development Manager

Full-time fixed term contract (until March 2021)

Are you passionate about innovation within the public sector and looking for new ways to support local government to become more financially sustainable?

Kettering Borough Council has built, and are continuing to develop, a robust investment portfolio. We are now looking to further increase our commercialisation activities across the organisation.

This new exciting role will be integral to delivering our recently adopted Commercialisation Strategy.

Working closely with the Head of Commercial & Economic Development and set against a backdrop of public sector reform, you will be responsible for identifying opportunities to diversify and maximise revenue from our existing assets, as well as examine and advise on new opportunities for income growth.

With no resource directly reporting to you, you have a unique role in working right across the organisation, therefore utilising existing skill sets within the Council and effective project management skills will be essential for success.

We want a team player who can deliver with a ‘commercial head’ and a ‘social heart’.

The Commercial & Economic Development Service is a relatively small service, made up of dedicated and passionate officers who act as enablers both within the organisation and externally, embracing the council’s ‘One Team’ ethos which we are very proud of.

The service covers a wide and varied remit and is focused on business support, growth and improvement, therefore being outward-looking, seeking best practice, benchmarking, as well as researching opportunities, are all fundamental traits of our day jobs.

Local Government is a changing picture and our service is keen to influence that change, we recognise the challenges and work together to implement positive solutions.

In return, we will reward you with a good benefits package, which includes Local Government Pension Scheme and generous annual leave, together with ongoing training and development opportunities.

The right candidate will be a self-starter, with the ability to inspire and motivate others. They will embrace and thrive on change but will be dedicated and focused on delivery. The ability to work alone or within a team is vital for success and they will display excellent communication skills.

This is a new and exciting opportunity, which the right candidate can help to influence and shape.

Kettering Borough Council is a great place to work. There is a positive One Team culture where people feel engaged and their ideas are taken on board to improve services and deliver efficiencies.
