More Information

Business Engagement Officer

Containing two leading Universities and with historic strengths in the arts, technology, engineering and design, B&NES is home to many creative thinkers and innovators.

The area has ambitious growth plans for the future. We aim to build on our strengths in existing priority sectors to create over 10,000 jobs and 150,000 square metres of employment space by 2036.

However, in order to realise the area’s potential for economic growth and to ensure the long-term economic sustainability of the area, a range of issues need to be tackled.

The B&NES economy is less productive, and has lower workplace earnings, than the broader West of England and national economies. Levels of entrepreneurship also fall behind other West of England economies and there is a widening gap in academic and economic inclusion.

By supporting businesses and residents to prosper we can ensure a sustainable, competitive, inclusive local economy for the future.

The primary purpose of this post is to deliver and maintain a business engagement programme across B&NES, supporting our dynamic local business community. The successful candidate will have the skills and experience to contribute to the development and delivery of the B&NES Business & Skills Plan and provide economic development support to colleagues in planning policy and development management. A further element of the role will involve the marketing and communications necessary to support the actions of the team and its partners.

The post represents an exciting opportunity to help shape the economic future of Bath and North East Somerset and drive forward the council’s sustainable, inclusive growth aspirations.
