Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Description

We have a new post for a Senior Speech and Language Therapist Assistant, with at least 2 years' experience of working in this role in mainstream schools, to join our innovative, supportive and outcome-focused team of therapists and assistants in North East Surrey. As well as working with children and young people under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist you will have a role in the development and support of new or less experienced assistants in the team and take part in project work.

Job Details

£21,987 actual salary per annum for 36 hours per week, across 42 weeks of the year, pro-rata to £23,951. The role is term time, plus an additional 15 days per year. You will have a Surrey base and work in schools.

About the role

The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council's local SEND offer, working collaboratively in the Vulnerable Learners team in Surrey Children, Schools and Families Directorate, with other teams like educational psychology, and specialist teachers.

We aim to deliver the right support at the right time, through assessment and intervention, and by equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN. We follow the Balance model to offer universal, targeted and specialist support for children, families, and the school workforce, and work with children and young people with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plan) and those at SEN (Special Education Needs) support.

This is a great opportunity to work across schools in the boroughs of Spelthorne and Elmbridge. The post is predominantly mainstream based, with the potential for a day working in a specialist centre for children with Learning and Additional Needs. Your base will be at Fairmount House, Leatherhead, KT22 7AH.

Your main duties in the role of Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will include but not be limited to:

  • Working individually with a child/ young person within the school
  • Modelling strategies to class teachers/ teaching assistants
  • Working with a small group
  • Making resources for the therapy team
  • Offering shadowing opportunities and peer support to less experienced SLTAs
  • Leading assistant meetings
  • Contributing to project work to develop the team

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

Experience of working with children and young people as a SLT Assistant either within mainstream or specialist schools and centres
Flexibility to adapt both your approach and communication style in order to deliver therapy intervention which is functional and client centred
Ability to work independently and flexibly
Knowledge of communication strategies and approaches used in Speech and Language Therapy
