Skills and Employment Project Officer

Skills and Employment Project Officer

Up to 1 year fixed term contract

G5 - £32,235 - £38,055

An exciting opportunity to join the Skills and Employment Team for up to one-year, fixed term basis is now available.

As a Council, we are coordinating and supporting a range of employment and skills activity across the borough to help local job seekers move into sustainable employment. Despite significant improvement in the employment rate in the borough in recent years, there are still some residents who struggle to gain employment, they are often long-term unemployed and/or have other barriers to work. Our employment support programmes are focussed on supporting these more disadvantaged groups. Also, as our economy evolves there is a need to work with our businesses to enable them to have the right skills in their workforce for the future and liaising with local providers such as Farnborough College of Technology, Hampshire County Council and the EM3 Local Enterprise Partnership to put in place the right training and development provision.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the delivery of the skills and employment work programme to generate, develop and manage employment and training opportunities across the borough.
  • Work with businesses, training providers, Hampshire County Council and the EM3 LEP to develop the skilled workforce for now and the future.
  • Work in partnership with the Communities Team to ensure there is a joined-up approach to education and skills.

The right candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to support our residents to be the best they can be and enjoy working collaboratively to respond to local priorities. They will be able to engage effectively with a wide range of businesses, residents and support organisations and have a commitment to creating strong and effective partnerships.

You will be a collaborative member of the Economic Development, Planning and Housing Strategy team, providing expert knowledge on employment support and the development of related programmes.

Secondments from other, particularly public sector organisations, will be considered where there is support from the employer.
