This is a great opportunity to lead the development of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s strategy for sustainability and tackling climate change and oversee its implementation working closely with members, communities, partner organisations, Council services and contractors.
In July 2019 the Council declared an climate emergency and established a Cross-Party Working Group to undertake an in-depth review of the council’s current carbon footprint and to formulate, consult and agree on a net Zero Carbon Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by 2050 Strategy in consultation with local stakeholders and partners with a draft strategy to be brought before Full Council within 12 months.
You will work closely with this group to develop the new strategy and you will be a key part of a new service area: Infrastructure, Sustainability and Economic Growth within the Council’s Place directorate.
In the role you will lead, manage and develop the Council’s overall sustainability approach to deliver high quality, resident-focused and efficient services to meet the Council’s objectives and secure sustained improvements.
Relationship management skills will be very important as you will need to build key partnerships to deliver the Council’s objectives and targets on sustainability, climate change and being carbon neutral.
You will have an environmental background with experience in delivering improvements in sustainability.

The council is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse and with the Royal Family on the doorstep, this is a good place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line opening in Maidenhead in 2021.
