Migration Senior Practitioner - Care Leavers Team

About the role

The Senior Practitioner will be responsible for meeting the aims and objectives and assessing risk, as set out in the Controlling Migration grant and representing Surrey County Council.

You will work collaboratively with the Team Manager to provide positive leadership and actively contribute to the development and success of the service.

An important part of this role will be to carry out research, gather views to create and implement various projects and working groups for Asylum Seeking young people, aged between 16 to 25, supported by the local authority and who are eligible for a service as per the Children Leaving Care Act 2000 and/or The Children and Social Work Act 2017 that allows them to achieve their potential as they make their transition to adulthood. You will work with the Migration Worker gathering views and feedback to inform the setting up and implementation of the appropriate projects and methods of group work.

You will also develop a training package with various tools and recourses to inform Asylum Seeking young people and professionals supporting them about their rights and entitlements and Immigration and Asylum processes and recommend services and sign posting/support information.

The post holder will work with the team manager and the team to make a personal contribution to a collective endeavour, to create the conditions for success and actively contribute to the development and success of the service.

To be shortlisted for interview your CV and covering letter will clearly evidence the following:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualifications and able to evidence considerable knowledge/understanding of working with Asylum seeking young people/care leavers.
  • An awareness of current issues relating to socially excluded young people including young people claiming asylum and or subject to immigration control.
  • Ability to travel around and out of the county to visit young people, and undertake some evening visits.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation (please see job description for more information)
