Job summary

Stroud District Council covers an area of 175 square miles and has an exceptionally diverse physical, historic and natural environment offering infinite variety and interest. Over 50% of the district is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is extremely well connected with easy access to Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester and London by train.

The Council deals with approximately 2,600 planning and related applications a year is currently reviewing its local plan, which seeks to provide 12,800 new houses within the district by 2040.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed planner with excellent customer service and communication skills. You will have your own caseload comprising the more complex applications, be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines and coach the staff under you to continuously raise standards. The post holder will be required to act as expert witness on behalf of the Council at Public Inquiries.

About you

Candidates will be members of the RTPI, with a recognised degree in planning and substantial practical working experience at a senior level. Local authority experience is desirable but not essential, however, a robust up to date knowledge and understanding of legislation, local and national planning policy and case law is imperative.
