The Role

Camden is looking for an experienced Category Manager to transfer their strong procurement and commercial expertise to our organisation and to also ensure the delivery of a high quality approach to procurement.

As a Category Manager you bring procurement and commercial expertise to the organisation, working across the Council to ensure the delivery of a high quality approach to procurement.  You will also have leadership responsibility across Camden for a specific strategic procurement approach (e.g. the implementation of new procurement legislation, or delivering social value through procurement).

As part of the procurement management team, you will help to lead and shape the procurement section and ensuring an approach from the procurement team which reaches out into the organisation to deliver a flexible and robust service. Driving the achievement of Camden’s financial strategy and procurement’s delivery of the Camden 2025 Plan ambitions will be key aspects of the role.

The fixed term post holder will more specifically lead primarily on the public health procurement work stream in collaboration with Islington Procurement Team to drive excellence in Public Health procurement. This includes workforce development, attendance in joint governance meetings, and the development of joined up approaches and solutions.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally hold MCIPS certification or equivalent relevant number of years’ experience working within a professional / commercial procurement environment. You will have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience of managing procurement projects within Corporate, Community and People directorates, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the procurement Regulations.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of managing the procurement and negotiation of complex and business critical contracts and services in line with public sector legislation and Council Contract Standing Orders.

You will have substantial experience of developing and delivering organisational-wide procurement strategies and/or policies. You will have a proven track record in leading, managing and developing staff whilst working effectively with a range of professionals in service areas, demonstrating excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

The post-holder will be required to work in an agile way in line with Camden’s move to a paperless and flexible work environment.
