Fixed-term contract ending on 31 March 2021

Full-time (37 hours a week)

Salary range £22,972 - £24,050 p.a

This post provides an exciting opportunity to work with a newly established initiative called the Healthy Hub, based at Broxbourne Council offices in Cheshunt. The Healthy Hub will be a one-stop shop for adults seeking to improve their health and wellbeing, one of a network of hubs across Hertfordshire.

The role requires working on a one-to-one basis with clients referred to the Hub by local GPs, Housing Services and other agencies. The work will mainly involve interviewing residents on a one-to-one basis, encouraging and motivating changes in behaviour to improve their health and wellbeing. It will involve working with the Council’s successful Active Herts physical health improvement programme and a network of services available locally such as smoking cessation, weight management, and counselling by Herts MIND Network, helping clients to access the support they need.

The successful candidate will be a confident self-starter with a passion for health improvement, and have the tact and empathy necessary to help people make changes in their lifestyle.

Skills and experience required are as follows:

  • Delivering health advice or information to individuals on a professional basis. Experience of motivational interviewing and carrying out health screening would be beneficial although not essential
  • A Level or equivalent NVQ Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, or a related subject, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Keeping accurate records using Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Judith Ingham, by calling 01992 785572.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is an essential requirement.

This role requires an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
