We have an exciting new post for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with skills and experience in ASD to join our innovative and collaborative management team and to lead the service at Freemantles school for pupils with ASD (Ofsted Outstanding, 2017).
£36,204 per annum (NHS Band 7 equivalent) for 36 hours per week across 42 weeks of the year. The role is term time, plus an additional 15 days per year.
About the role
For this role, you will:
- Hold a specialist clinical caseload within Freemantles School and oversee the service into the school supporting a small team of therapists and a therapy assistant; you will be based there 3 days a week
- Have a management role in the North West SLT Team which includes: working alongside the other NW Team Leads to support and develop an enthusiastic and friendly team of 30 SLTs/SLTAs who work in mainstream and specialist schools across the NW in Woking, Runnymede & Surrey Heath
- Joint working with colleagues across other teams in Surrey to ensure the wider team is informed of current research and evidence base, and that clinical practice is of high quality and reflects the research and evidence base
- Working with management on the operational and strategic development of services to our ASD schools across Surrey
- Providing second opinions, observation and support, training and shadowing opportunities to colleagues in your clinical area of expertise
- Clinical supervision and line management to junior members of the SLT team within Freemantles and the wider NW SLT team
The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council's local offer to support the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities of children and young people within mainstream schools and specialist provision. The Service is part of the Vulnerable Learners Team in Surrey Children, Schools and Families Directorate and as such works collaboratively with other teams such as educational psychology, learning and language support, REMA and Behaviour Support.
The main function and aim of the service is for children and young people in schools with speech, language and communication needs to receive the right support at the right time. This is achieved through assessment and intervention, equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN.
We work with children and young people with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plan) and those at SEN (Special Education Needs) support. In order to achieve these aims the service follows the 'balance model', offering universal, targeted and specialist support for families, the school environment, the school workforce, assessment and intervention
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- Speech and language therapist background with at least 5 years post graduate experience and specific experience and training in ASD
- Knowledge of the National Curriculum and Code of Practice and experience in working within the Balanced system Framework
- Flexibility to adapt both clinical approach and communication style to ensure that assessment, reports, therapy inputs and outcomes are functional and client centred
- Experience of training and positively influencing practice in large staff teams
- Experience of line managing and supporting others
- A BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registered membership of the Health and Care Professions Council
- Registered membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
