More about this employer

Bank Speed Radar, Roadside & Bus Surveys

Your work directly impacts on the Environment, Transport and Infrastructure directorate whose purpose is to enable safe, reliable journeys and sustainable, prosperous places now and in the future.

You will be part of the Transport Studies Survey Team, whose core aim is to accurately and diligently collect pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle movement data which provides insight and allows for evidence led improvements through the teams transport modelling.

Your role will involve completing traffic surveys as instructed by the Survey Supervisor. This can be working in teams or on your own to conduct interview surveys. A large portion of this type of work is comprised of bus surveys which involve travelling on specific buses services, interviewing passengers and recording their information and movements. The results our team produce from these surveys can lead to improvements to bus routes and increased efficiencies. Other interview surveys may involve asking members of the public questions about their travel behaviour, a recent example at Woking train station to aid improvements for cycle routes to and from the station.

Successful candidates will need to clearly demonstrate the following skills:

  • Excellent time management
  • Accuracy in recording information
  • Attention for detail
  • Use of initiative
  • Honest and reliable
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Good teamwork
  • Helpful and friendly

The hours of work vary according to the type of work and the requirements of each individual survey. Most Surveys involve early starts and/or late finishes, typically between the hours of 7am and 7pm, however bus surveys may be required at any time with bus services generally running between 6am and midnight . So availability to meet the required hours is a necessity.

Surveys are required across the entire county so a driving license and access to a vehicle is preferable. Expenses incurred through mileage and parking for surveys can be reclaimed using Surrey County Councils mileage expense form and claim rate.
