Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service

Front of House/Museum Guide Assistant

£19,781 - £20,165 inclusive of Outer Fringe Allowance pro rata
30 hours per week (Monday to Thursday)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Front of House Museum Guide/Assistant to support the day to day running of our Museum Service which is based primarily at the Mill Green Mill and Museum in Hatfield, and on occasion at the Roman Bath House in Welwyn.

This busy service manages two separate heritage sites. At Mill Green Mill and Museum we operate a working watermill and a social history museum.  At the Roman Bath House we show the remains of a Roman bathing suite which has been ingeniously preserved in a subterranean structure under the A1(M) motorway.

Working closely with our dedicated team of staff and volunteers you will be responsible for welcoming and assisting members of the public and other visitors to the sites with a high level of customer service; undertaking important security and safety duties; coordinating and completing maintenance, technical and building cleaning duties and ordering stock and taking cash and card payments.

You will have experience of working directly with members of the public; using a phone and PC confidently; work an electronic point of sale system; possess good spoken and written communication skills; and have practical physical skills to assist with exhibitions, museum activities, displays and special community events on site.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.

Closing date for applications is 1 March 2020.

Assessment and Interview date will be held on 13 March 2020.
