Housing Technician

An exciting opportunity has come up to work within Private Housing Services on an innovative project in a small area of the district to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and families.

You will work with private landlords, tenants, partner agencies and the community to improve standards of housing in the private rented sector. The successful candidate will be required to have an appreciation of the link between housing and health, an understanding of private sector housing issues, and a good knowledge of building construction and improving energy efficiency in domestic dwellings. The successful candidate should also have prior knowledge of the workings of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and have experience of regulatory enforcement.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and applicants should possess good I.T. skills.  You will be an enthusiastic, responsible team player, who is committed to high standards of customer care and able to work unsupervised and perform well to targets/deadlines.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to visit and inspect properties in the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is fixed term for a period of 12 months. The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. This post is based at Morecambe Town Hall.  

Please note the Council is currently reviewing its pay and grading structure and the salary may be subject to change.

Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
