Fast-track your Career at Swindon Borough Council
Swindon is a vibrant and dynamic town undergoing some big changes and with major plans for growth. The Borough is 89 square miles in area, and currently home to about 225,000 people. We are making a major investment in our services to ensure that we can continue to plan positively for Swindon’s growth, to deliver high quality design and maintain a competitive and productive economy.
If you are looking to further your career in the design, implementation, and adoption of highways schemes or have experience in the highways sector, looking to use your skills on a variety of schemes, this could be the ideal opportunity.
Either as a Senior Engineer with relevant experience or progressing your career as a Technician, you will make appropriate recommendations and decisions within the framework of government and council guidelines and policies and taking advice from other officers. You will provide an effective service in assessing and commenting on Technical Approval of detailed designs of highways schemes, carry out inspection of works, and provide a high quality service to all customers, both within and outside the Council, taking every opportunity to enhance the image and reputation of the Council.
This role will make a significant contribution in ensuring the new highway assets are fit for purpose today and for the future. As such, the successful candidate will play a key role in assessing that highway schemes are designed and implemented to the local and national technical requirements.
Given the scale and significance of our schemes, you will play a key part in putting Swindon on the map by increasing the profile of our town. This in turn will present openings to develop your personal profile and network.
This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude to be part of Swindon’s continuing success story. At the same time you’ll be a team player maintaining critical relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, partner organisations and developers.
In return we can offer a competitive salary, training, an agile working environment and a chance to be part of an ambitious Council which is at the forefront of public sector transformation.
Whilst you need not be a car owner, an ability to travel throughout the Borough to undertake site visits is essential.
Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
