Full time post for 2 years with scope for extension.

Epping Forest District Council has declared a Climate Emergency and is looking for a determined, talented and innovative officer to drive forward our pledge to do everything we can to be carbon neutral by 2030.

You will be influential in delivering, the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan and Air Quality Strategy, and within this framework you will develop an ambitious programme of activities to reduce energy consumption and emissions from homes, businesses and from the Council’s own operations. You will work closely with another newly created post, the Sustainable Transport Officer, to deliver initiatives that reduce emissions from transport by promoting sustainable transport and encouraging consumer behaviour change and you will support the implementation of high standards of sustainability within all development coming forward within the District’s Local Plan. Key to this exciting role will be the securing of both commitment and ownership from a wide range of partners to deliver effective change across the District.

You will have a relevant Degree/ qualification and/or previous experience working in a similar environmental sustainability and climate change role. You will be well informed about the climate agenda including carbon management, including the challenges this presents and able to provide professional advice and share best practice with Officers in this respect.

You will have strong verbal communication skills to build effective relationships and to influence, communicate and negotiate with a diverse range of individuals across the Council and with external partners and organisations.

You will be confident in writing reports and producing evidence-led strategies and policies on climate change and environmental sustainability that are aligned across the council. Crucially, you will also ensure a robust monitoring framework is established that will clearly show progress.

Above all, you will be an enthusiastic, driven individual with a passion for the environment and commitment to deliver change through the climate emergency agenda.
