PLANNING POLICY TEAM – Neighbourhood Development Plan Support Officer

Scale 5: £22,021 - £23,836 – 37 Hours per week, 6-month Fixed Term Contract (OR Part time working of a minimium of 18.5 hours will be considered on a 12-month FTC basis)

Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience

Based at Arun Civic Centre, Littlehampton

Arun is a District of 150,000 people geographically located midway between the cities of Portsmouth and Brighton.  It incorporates three main towns, including historic Arundel and everything from sunny south coast beaches to the South Downs which is now part of a National Park.  

We are seeking someone who is highly motivated, with knowledge/experience of Neighbourhood Planning delivery. This role includes assisting Parish Council’s and Town Councils and designated neighbourhood planning bodies with the preparation and review of Neighbourhood Plans, Neighbourhood Development Orders and Community Right to Build Orders. Arun District Council wishes to appoint a member of staff to assist with the Neighbourhood Plan making casework. Someone who is organised and a good communicator working in a similar busy work environment will be an advantage.

Main areas of responsibility will include:-

  • Initiating and keeping good record of communication (correspondence, emails, letters plans and evidence documents) using IT skills and systems and an ability to communicate and negotiate with parish councils and community representatives and other stakeholders
  • Providing advice to parishes preparing Neighbourhood Plans on necessary evidence preparation, plan making stages (in accordance with the Neighbourhood Plan making regulations) and reviewing submitted Neighbourhood Plan documents and making recommendations to achieve compliance
  • Assisting with administrating the Neighbourhood Plan documentation communication via the Council’s web site and consultation software
