This is a 10 month secondment / fixed term contract till 25th February 2020.

About the role
Surrey has over 50 public libraries across the county, delivering a range of services to residents. In addition to lending books and providing a range of online resources, we also hold events and activities for both adults and children. These range from Rhyme times and coding clubs, to computer classes and hobby groups.
The role of Duty Manager is key in meeting library service performance targets. This group of libraries is managed by a team of three part-time managers, working together. As a team they support a first-class library service for the people of Surrey, supervising and developing staff to ensure an overall standard of excellent customer care.
The successful applicant will be committed to reading, delivering information, digital services and professional development for themselves and others with a proven record of working effectively under pressure in a busy multi-tasking environment. They will be hard-working, enthusiastic and quick to learn, with a flexible attitude to work patterns, and demonstrate a confident understanding of collaborative management which will enable them to tackle a wide variety of tasks and situations across these libraries.

- Management, supervision and training of staff and/or volunteers with the ability to organise their time effectively
- Taking initiative while working effectively as part of a management team
- Experience of providing outstanding customer care

There are no staff parking facilities at libraries in Surrey, however there are car parks close to most locations. If using public transport, please check what options are available for you to travel to individual locations, and when making your application, consider your travel costs and arrangements.
From time to time a Duty Manager will also travel to various Surrey County Council offices and other libraries in the network, as required.
