Admissions Officer

This post is set within the Admissions and Transport team, which has responsibility for delivering the mainstream school admissions service; coordinating the normal round admissions process for all schools and managing the in-year admissions service. This includes:

  • assessing mainstream and SEND home to school transport
  • arranging placement of challenging and vulnerable children under the Fair Access Protocol
  • tracking and monitoring applications up to the date children start school
  • and identifying and referring children who might be missing education

These are complex areas of work which are heavily regulated. The admissions process has statutory application and offer dates which must be met, creating a highly pressurised environment. Relevant statutory guidance issued by the Department for Education includes the School Admissions Code, Home to School Travel and Transport Guidance, the School Admissions Appeals Code and Children Missing Education.

As part of the Admissions and Transport team, you will report to the Senior Admissions Systems Officer to help develop and support systems and processes within the team. You will also be required to ensure public facing systems and information are up to date. This includes:

  • administration of the consultation and determination of admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools
  • tracking and checking of consultations and determinations of admission arrangements for own admission authority schools
  • preparation of the school admissions literature that is published for parents
  • the regular review and updating of the admissions and transport pages on Surrey's website, online systems and Services for Schools portal

You will have proven administrative and office experience and have good organisational skills that will demonstrate an ability to plan and prioritise your own workload. You will also have experience of working under pressure to meet a deadline and you will be able to work constructively and flexibly as part of a team to achieve objectives and improve customer service. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and good analytical skills with the ability to apply close attention to detail. You will possess good IT skills, including Word and Excel and have experience of using database management systems to a high standard of accuracy. You will also have the ability to apply the principles of safeguarding and data protection policies.

If this sounds like you, we would love to receive your application.
