Temporary Bank Activity Worker

At Surrey County Council we are looking for enthusiastic temporary Activity Workers to assist with the delivery of our front line care service, to help support children, young people and their families within Surrey during this unprecedented time. This role mirrors and may encompass some tasks typically performed by Youth workers or Family Support Workers. You will be required to work flexibly as part of the team under a zero-hour contract. The rate of pay is £13.05 per hour and is subject to an additional enhancement in lieu of annual leave/sickness.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role if you are successful.

About the role

As an Activity Worker your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support to social workers.
  • Undertaking direct work with children, young people and their families, typically with supervision as necessary.
  • Collaborating with team members to tailor activities and interventions to help meet young people's needs.
  • Working in partnership with stakeholders, agencies and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community.
  • Receiving and making calls, speaking to vulnerable families and/or professionals and recording information as appropriate.

What we are looking for

At Surrey we are keen to hear from enthusiastic individuals who have some previous experience of working with children, young people and/or families, alongside this you must have a passion to make a positive difference to the lives of others. We are looking for people with a range of skills, such as those who are able to engage and deliver creative, playful and flexible work to children and young people, those with skills and experience of supporting children with disabilities and/or their parent carers, those with mediation and de-escalation skills, or those with skills and experience in supporting victims of domestic abuse.

In response to the challenges posed by Covid-19, the County Council has put in place a number of additional measures to support staff. This position may require you to travel to various locations across Surrey to engage directly with children, young people and families. It may also require you to undertake work with children, young people and families virtually.

Where possible, we will try to match people to roles that are geographically close to their home to reduce unnecessary travel, however, this position may require you to travel to various locations across Surrey to engage directly with children, young people and families. Mileage will be reimbursed for required travel.
