Buckinghamshire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Client Transport. We are looking for an experienced individual to lead and manage the client transport function across Buckinghamshire which procures and leads transport delivery for home to school transport and social care.

This is an exciting time to join the UK's newest council in a single unitary council serving the residents of Buckinghamshire.

About us

The Client Transport function is part of Transport Services which has a key role in supporting public transport delivery across the county, as well as passenger transport. The teams work closely together to ensure the integrated transport solutions are in place, for example through increasing the provision of transport commercially for children to get to school without the need for the Council to provide transport directly.

Client transport is a busy operational team which manages high value and high profile contracts on behalf of the Council, providing critical services so that children can get to school, including many vulnerable SEN children, as well as enabling older people to access services.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to act as the Council's expert on client transport strategy and delivery. The post holder will influence the Council's long term strategy to ensure financially sustainable, safe and high quality passenger transport for children and adults.

This is a new post created to ensure a dedicated leadership capacity to lead the service through a transformation journey to become financially sustainable and an exemplar nationally in passenger transport strategy and delivery.

As the Head of Client Transport you will lead and manage the delivery of a busy operational team as well long term planning. This is a diverse role, which requires you to shift focus from developing a 7 year tendering strategy to supporting the team to operationally manage day-to-day demand of high volume activity.

About you

This role will suit someone who enjoys managing change to deliver results. Someone who has a passion for excellence, detail and committed to delivering value for money public services.

The ideal candidate would also be flexible and enjoy managing both the strategic long term planning but equally the day-to-day operational management of running a busy high volume service.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of managing busy operational teams. With a track record in managing change to deliver results.
  • Relevant experience in transport services, and or significant value contracts who uses initiative and demonstrates strategic and political awareness in problem solving and decision making
  • A passion for improving the customer experience
