You have experience of working with women on issues of domestic abuse and coercive control, including assessing them in relation to their vulnerability and needs. All you need now is the perfect environment to put your skills to great use. Welcome to Richmond Fellowship Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP) as a Women’s Service Practitioner.

DVIP has been helping to make women and children safer for over 25 years. Indeed, we are experts in our field and were one of the first UK community perpetrator programmes to be Respect accredited. Specifically, we work to stop domestic violence and to reduce the harm it causes to women, children and families.

Your role? To have proactive contact with partners and ex-partners of men referred to the Violence Prevention Programme via the telephone, online, face-to-face and group work support. As well as assessing the risks and vulnerabilities of the victims of domestic violence and abuse, we’ll rely on you to identify the available support to reduce risks and meet their needs. You’ll also be responsible for delivering individual and group support services, as well as outreach and training in aspects of domestic abuse and coercive control and DVIP’s work. This will involve regular co-location alongside referring agencies to support their positive responses to women experiencing abuse. Put simply, you’ll do all you can to increase women and children’s safety and helping women to make informed, healthy choices regarding all aspects of their lives.

To succeed, you’ll need knowledge of the nature of domestic abuse and coercive control and how it effects and impacts on women and children. You’ll also need an understanding of why men use abusive behaviours towards women in intimate relationships and the range of models used in addressing this behaviour. Used to working with women from BAMER communities and faith groups, you’re familiar with the power and control model, as well as safeguarding practice and procedures. Crucially, you have a good awareness of the range of services that support women and children who experience domestic abuse and understand the impact of domestic abuse on parenting, Experience of liaising with social workers or other professionals from a range of statutory and voluntary agencies is important too, as is a proven ability to manage your own workload and admin.

The postholder will be expected to attend meetings and deliver services in a variety of locations in London.
