North Somerset Council is looking to appoint an experienced person to help develop and move forward Highway Asset Management (Roads, footways and cycleways).
The role involves commissioning surveys of highway condition and then producing the annual road and footway maintenance programme for resurfacing and surface sealing treatments.
Key duties include:
- Analysing road condition survey data and production of condition reports
- Preparing annual maintenance programme (circa £6m)
- Summarising and submitting our data for purposes of national benchmarking
- Updating the council’s highway maintenance strategy/policy
- Annual report to finance teams on asset value
- Annual report to Department for Transport
You will be expected to work with suppliers and colleagues from neighbouring councils to actively develop your knowledge and awareness of best practise. You will also respond to public and internal enquiries regarding policy and scheme selection.
The post forms part of the Strategic Transport Policy & Development Team which has a wider remit including policy development, advising on planning applications and developing new transport schemes and funding bids.
The successful candidate will be qualified to the relevant level in Civil Engineering; Geography; GIS; or other relevant subject and preferably have experience in data quality management and analysis as well as a knowledge of asset management principles. You will have enthusiasm to make a difference and be flexible with the ability to engage with the public and employees at all levels.
The post is career graded and we are ideally looking to appoint an experienced person but would consider someone who can demonstrate transferable skills and the ability to learn quickly on the job.
