Environmental Health Officer/Senior Environmental Health Officer

2 career graded posts dependant on qualifications and experience

Hastings is an ambitious, progressive and interventionist Council, and environmental health and licensing are essential and valued services at the core of our public protection and community safety work.

We have changed the way we deliver our services by combining environmental health and licensing into a single generic environmental health and licensing team (except for private sector housing). This has helped us to provide a more effective and flexible service for residents and businesses, as well as a more rewarding range of work for everyone in our team.

We now need 2 new field officers to complete our experienced and friendly team. If you are an ambitious and progressive environmental health practitioner, our new generic approach will appeal to you and provide the opportunity for excellent experience of wide-ranging environmental health and licensing issues.

We have excellent multi-agency arrangements, involving innovative community safety meetings to agree rapid collaborative approaches to addressing serious environmental health, licensing and community safety cases.

We’re looking for excellent communicators, who are happy to embrace a more generic approach to delivering services in our historic seaside town.

A full driving licence is essential for this post which also attracts a separate benefit allowance of £1,906 as is a willingness to work outside of normal office hours from time to time. There’s also the added opportunity to participate in our emergency out of hours on call service, which attracts a standby payment of £8496 per annum.

In addition to support with training and personal development, we operate flexible approaches to working including homeworking for all our officers with laptops and smart phones issued as standard.
