We have an exciting opportunity available to lead our team of dedicated highways professionals with the chance to shape new developments and make a real difference to our communities. With a mix of urban and rural environments, Central Bedfordshire offers a set of complex challenges.

Representing the Highway Authority, the Highways Development Management Team focus on making sure that traffic can move safely and efficiently around the Authority’s highway network.

With your in-depth knowledge of highways development management, you’ll understand the issues we may face. You’ll apply your expertise and lead the team in advising astutely on new proposals and negotiate improvements that support the Council’s agenda for driving delivery of sustainable growth. 

As a highway specialist, you’ll have extensive experience of the role of the Highways Authority in relation to new developments. You will be an experienced highways and transportation professional familiar with responding to planning consultations ranging from pre application advice to appeals. 

You’ll be familiar with innovative highway design and experienced in network and junction modelling techniques. You’ll be keen to apply your leadership skills and knowledge to a brand new challenge.

You’ll have a degree or equivalent in a highways discipline and have significant post qualification experience in Development Management or Highway Engineering, including Local Authority experience. With up to 8 direct reports, you’ll be an experienced team manager able to motivate and support your team to maximise output and results.

You will be confident communicating with all level of stakeholders, able to demonstrate sound professional judgement with an in depth knowledge of highway law or other relevant legislation affecting development proposals.
