Brighton & Hove City Council’s Fleet section  have an exciting opportunity for a Heavy Goods Vehicle apprentice. The Department is responsible for the repair and maintenance for a wide variety of vehicles including Heavy Goods refuse collection vehicles, municipal vehicles and light commercial.   

The Heavy Vehicle service and Maintenance Technician at level 3  is run by Greater Brighton metropolitan college who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

Apprentices will gain knowledge in the fundamentals of HV technologies E.G HV chassis design, engine, fuels, transmissions, electrical, air conditioning, air and hydraulic braking systems, air suspension systems etc.  

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

Contract duration will be 39-42 months (36 months training and 3-6 months for EPA).  Contract will terminate on successful completion of apprenticeship.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System.
