Come and join us in beautiful Brighton & Hove  - an exciting place to develop your career in town planning. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Planning Officer post in the Policy, Projects & Heritage Team within the council's Planning Service.

About the role

Brighton & Hove is a place with an agenda for real change which makes planning work both interesting and challenging. We are one of the busiest unitary planning services and this role will help to deliver a wide range of key city objectives. The Council Plan is to deliver a fairer city with a sustainable future. We are working towards becoming a carbon neutral city by 2030, delivering genuinely affordable new council homes and building community wealth. The city is tightly constrained between the sea to the south and the South Downs National Park to the north; it has a wealth of heritage assets (3400 listed buildings) and there are a wide range of strategic regeneration sites being brought forward and delivered. All of this presents a challenging and a rewarding range of work for our Planning Service which is part of the larger City Development and Regeneration Team.

We are developing a modern, positive and customer focused Planning Service. We know that staff are the most important asset of the service and we are investing in development and training.

The city council adopted its City Plan Part One  in March 2016 and is now consulting on its proposed submission version of the detailed plan City Plan Part Two. CIL will be introduced this autumn and we are preparing a new Urban Design Framework for the city. There is wide scope for involvement in a range of planning policy and projects work including input into design and site briefs, preparation of Supplementary Planning Documents and the forthcoming review of the City Plan following adoption of our Part Two Plan.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
