We are looking to recruit an Accountant to join our team supporting the People directorate.

This is a demanding role for an ambitious, self-motivated individual who can demonstrate an aptitude for working on their own initiative, within a team, under pressure and to strict deadlines. 

This post sits within the Education (Dedicated Schools Grant) and Communities & Wellbeing Team reporting to the Senior Accountant and will undertake accounting, budgetary control and financial administration duties in respect of a group of service areas.

The post will be involved in annual funding payments to schools for their main budgets as per the schools formula. Processing of annual business rates for schools and place funding for high needs places and top up payments. Budget setting, budgetary control, closedown of the service accounts at the financial year end and the financial administration duties in respect of a service area.  This involves providing financial advice and information which assists managers in the delivery of their services.

The successful applicant must be numerate and computer literate, including the use of Excel spreadsheets, with a wide knowledge and experience of accountancy and the ability to give advice to non-finance staff.  Applicants should be undertaking AAT Level 4 or already a qualified Accounting Technician (or equivalent, or qualified by experience) with 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment.  Further training opportunities are available to the successful applicant. 

We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.
