This is an exciting opportunity to join Enfield Council’s Special Educational Needs &/or Disability (SEND) Team as a SEND Advisory Officer. This is a customer facing, administrative and office based role that requires a high level of work with ICT software to produce high quality written EHC Plans, collated from a variety of professional reports. SEND Advisory Officers are not practitioners working directly with Children & Young People.

As pathfinders for the SEND Reforms, Enfield are passionate & ambitious about improving the outcomes of Children & Young People aged 0-25 in the borough with Special Educational Needs &/or Disability.

We are looking for somebody who shares our passion and ambitions to join the SEND team and support the great work that we are doing, whilst working towards our vision of continuously improving the SEN service.

We are a large team, currently are made up of 2 x Sub-teams that manage caseloads for Children either aged 0-11 or Young People aged 11-25. Each team is made up of 6 x SEND Advisory Officers and are each led by a Senior Advisory Officer.

Previous experience of working within a statutory service is not essential but is desired. A track record of exceptional customer service, the ability to think with a person-centred approach and a high standard of written English and organisation skills to be able to produce outstanding quality Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) are all necessary.

Full training will be given to the successful candidate so that they are fully conversant in SEND legislation and processes, however, evidence that a candidate has undertaken thorough research before applying will form part of the assessment at interview.

Applicants will need to have:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, high pressure, customer facing role.
  • Experience of working in a statutory service or litigious field.
  • Experience of managing a large caseload or client base.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with experience of working with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of The Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015 & SEND Regulations 2014.
  • An ability to build effective relationships and engage in partnership working
  • An exceptionally high standard of written skills for producing EHCPs while taking all advice into consideration and to produce a high volume and range of written correspondence.
  • Excellent organisational skills that can meet conflicting demands to ensure deadlines are always met.
  • A proactive working style that has demonstrated the ability to achieve positive and sustainable change

Evidence of a high standard of written English will be required throughout application and assessment at interview.

Hours: 36 per week x 52 weeks per annum
