Operations Manager (Waste and Recycling)

Lancaster City Council is committed to providing a clean green and safe environment for all those who live, work and visit the district. The Council undertake activities that reduce the levels of waste generated and those that increase recycling.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Operations Manager to join our Waste and Recycling Department at The Council. This is a senior role within the Waste Management Team and is a permanent post.

As the Waste Collection Authority, Lancaster City Council collects waste and recyclables from every household in the district as well as many businesses. We are seeking a competent and professional Operations Manager who will lead on, plan, control and develop the day to day operations.

This is a dynamic and fast paced role. Primarily this role will focus on maintaining lean operations to optimise efficient service delivery, so it is essential you are confident and able to handle challenging situations.  You need to be energetic, decisive, be able to manage competing priorities and at times implement significant changes to ensure collections are completed by the end of each day. 

It is important you have high standards of delivery and customer service, that as well as being determined you are resilient and flexible and add value to the team. A full current UK driving license is essential to the role as the post holder will be required to drive throughout the district to manager and monitor a widely dispersed workforce.

The hours of work for this position is 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday and is based at White Lund Depot. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme. Some out of hours work may be required as the business demands. You will be required to work early mornings, some late evenings and some weekends on a rota basis.

Last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
